These days, I begin my singing workout with four exercises that give me a quiet, yet focused start.
If you would like to know more about the hows and whys of my daily vocal warm up, please read: Vocal Warm Up.
But for those of you who just want to listen to the four warm ups one after another and try them for yourselves. Here they are:
1. The long held note on “Neeeeeeeeeeeeee or Nooooooooooooooo”
(I sing this exercise with the vowel EE or OO (sounds like “do”), depending upon how I feel on the day. The EE gives me more focus. The OO is rounder. Sometimes I do the exercise on both vowels.
2. The 5-note slide on “Noooooooooooooo” (sounds like “do”)
3. Five vowels sung smoothly on one note – EE AY AH OH OO
4. The E-stretch – moving up and down in an octave slide.
